October 4-10 is National Fire Prevention Week. As summer turns to fall, it's a good idea to refresh your memory on fall fire safety tips.
*Ensure all smoke detector batteries in your home or office have been checked.
*Get your central heating system cleaned, inspected and serviced by a certified HVAC contractor every year before using it.
*Be especially careful when using space heaters. Ensure you have at least 3 feet of empty space. Also make sure you turn off when leaving your home.
*Have your chimney inspected and if needed cleaned before using in the cold weather. Repair any cracks present and have all debris removed from your chimney.
*Go over with all members of your household your fire escape plan and practice several times.
